After starting in the forest, the trail eventually opened into wide alpine meadows filled with wildflowers. Purple blooms covered the hillsides, growing among the rocks and alongside the streams created by the melting snow above. There was something especially beautiful about seeing the flowers in full bloom with snow still covering the surrounding peaks. It felt like two seasons meeting in the same landscape. I stopped more than once to take in the contrast and photograph the little details along the trail before continuing higher into the mountains. These were the moments that made the hike feel like more than just a climb to reach the lake. And yes, the water really is that color. The lake was an incredible shade of turquoise, surrounded by steep mountain walls, lingering snow, and scattered wildflowers. A small rocky island sits near the center of the lake, adding another layer to an already dramatic landscape. I spent some time walking around the basin and taking in the different views. From one side, you could see the lake framed by the mountains. From another, the trail continued along the shoreline toward the upper basin, with snow still covering parts of the surrounding slopes. The weather was constantly shifting while I was there, with clouds moving over the peaks and sunlight changing the color of the water. It made the lake look a little different every time I turned around. The trees are long gone, replaced by open hillsides covered in wildflowers, small streams, and sweeping views of the mountains in the distance. This was one of my favorite sections of the hike because you can really see how high you've climbed. Looking back along the trail, the mountains stretch out in every direction, with snow still tucked into the slopes and clouds moving across the peaks. The trail felt small against the landscape, winding through the greenery as it continued higher into the mountains.
